Bonfire Night

Fireworks may be fun for us, but not for our animals!

Whilst this time of year can be fun for many of us, Bonfire Night can be a distressing and frightening time for our pets. It is estimated that 45% of dogs in the UK show signs of fear when they hear fireworks. Firework phobia is a treatable condition though - so our pets don't have to suffer each year. Read on to find out what you can do to help your pets..

  • Play music to try and dull the noise outside
  • Don't react to fireworks yourself
  • Make a den for your dog to hide and feel safe - this needs to be done in advance and put their favourite toys in the den along with some blankets and maybe some treats
  • Distract your pet using their favourite toys and treats or getting them something new to keep their mind busy
  • Try not to react to you pet if they are anxious as this will encourage the fear
  • Invite a brave dog round who doesn't react to fireworks

We stock some excellent products which can also help ease your pets anxiety, please feel free to come in or give us a call to talk through which options might be best suited to your pet.

Also please ensure your pets microchip details are up to date.
